Overclocking the HTC Touch

How to Overclock the HTC Touch

Do you feel that your HTC Touch is acting too slowly? 200 MHz do not seem that much at all and many people have reported this device being too weak in its performance. So what's the solution apart from waiting for the next generation of HTC touchphones? Overclocking!

--- Before reading any further please be advised that you are going to lose all your warranty should you decided to overclock your HTC Touch. You act on your own responsibility! ---

Overclocking the HTC Touch using BatteryStatus

To be honest, overclocking is really a breeze. Just download Chi Tai Dang's small piece of software called BatteryStatus, currently available in version 0.04.203. Install the .CAB file by copying it to your HTC Touch, clicking on it and following the instructions. Afterwards, start BatteryStatus in your Program folder and click on the OMAP tab. To be on the safe side, adjust the new CPU speed to 247 MHz. If you're more adventurous you might also give 260 MHz a try, I didn't experience any problems with that speed either.

After you have set the new processor speed, the today screen by default now shows your current processor speed. And believe me, the HTC Touch now really rocks, everything runs much smoother and the interface is quicker as well.

Even though overclocking may reduce the lifetime of your device it shouldn't hurt too much and you won't probably keep your Touch for 5 years anyway, will you?
